General Burnside Island State Park

General Burnside Island State Park offers an 18-hole golf course and a 102-site campground, all located on an island. The park is named after General Ambrose Burnside, the Civil War leader known for his distinctive sideburns. During the war, Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island while searching for Confederate soldiers.

Fishing
Lake Cumberland is known for some of the best fishing in the United States. Anglers can fish for crappie (10-inch size limit), largemouth and smallmouth bass (15-inch size limit), and striped bass (24-inch size limit, with a two-fish daily limit). A Kentucky Fishing License is required.

Boating
The park’s marina offers everything you need for a fun day on the water, including rental slips, fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats, and houseboats. A six-lane launching ramp provides easy access to the lake. Nearby, Lake Cumberland State Dock, located in the heart of the houseboating capital, offers luxurious houseboat rentals with renowned southern hospitality.

Camping
Enjoy camping at General Burnside Island, where cool lake breezes and stunning views make for a relaxing getaway. The campground features 94 sites with utility hookups, two service buildings with showers and restrooms, and a dump station. The campground is open from mid-March to mid-November. Golf
Play on the 18-hole regulation golf course at General Burnside Island, located in Somerset, KY, surrounded by the beauty of Lake Cumberland. The course includes a pro shop, pull carts, and riding carts.

Picnicking
Enjoy the park’s excellent picnic facilities, complete with picnic tables, grills, and a playground. Two picnic shelters are available for rent, one of which includes restroom facilities. Shelters can be reserved up to one year in advance.
