Biking:

Discover the extensive 24-mile trail system within the park, catering to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Whether you prefer walking, biking, or horse riding, immerse yourself in the fresh outdoor air. Beginning June 1, 2008, a weather restriction program will be in place to preserve the upgraded trails. Trail closures and conditions will be communicated through signs at parking areas and a daily hotline (502-477-9028).

Birding:

Indulge in excellent birding opportunities throughout the park, particularly in mature forests, campgrounds, park trails, the Wildlife Viewing Trail, and the lake area. Noteworthy sightings include hawks, sparrows, hummingbirds, Tufted Titmouse, Cedar Waxwing, grouse, and Northern Cardinals. Spring brings warblers and thrushes, while summer hosts nesting warblers and a variety of birds like Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and Red-tailed Hawks.

Boating:

Visit Taylorsville Lake Marina for easy access to gas pumps, a bait shop, and a marina store offering skiing, tubing, boating, and fishing supplies. Pontoon, deck boats, and fishing boat rentals are available with daily rates.

Camping:

Choose from 42 improved campsites with electric and water, 15 spacious primitive sites, and 10 pull-through equestrian sites at Taylorsville Lake State Park’s campground. Two playgrounds and central service buildings with laundry facilities enhance your camping experience. Reservations can be made through the website or by calling Reserve America at (888) 4KY-PARK.

Fishing:

Reel in bass, bluegill, and crappie from Taylorsville Lake. Take advantage of the wheelchair-accessible fishing pier. Ensure you have a valid Kentucky Fishing License, available online at the KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Hiking:

Enjoy the multi-use trail system covering 24 miles, catering to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Protect the trails by adhering to the weather restriction program, with signs and a daily hotline (502-477-9028) providing closure updates.

Horseback:

Orienteering:

Engage in orienteering, a navigation sport using a map and compass. Taylorsville Lake State Park offers a 3.4 km permanent orienteering course with 13 controls in a mixed forest setting.

Camping

Taylorsville Lake State Park, situated west of Lexington and southeast of Louisville, Kentucky, boasts some of the most picturesque horse riding country. The camping options include 45 spacious RV sites with electric and water hook-ups, 10 equestrian sites with the same amenities, and 15 primitive tent sites. A 24-mile trail system caters to hikers, bikers, and equestrians. The park features two conveniently located playgrounds for children, two bathhouses with laundry facilities, and a centrally located dump station for RV use. While reservations are encouraged, they are not mandatory, and your well-behaved pet is welcome.
