First Day Hike

Join us for an exhilarating start to the New Year with a FREE guided hike on January 1st at 1 p.m. This event is part of the nationwide initiative by America’s State Parks called First Day Hikes, encouraging people to embrace the outdoors. On New Year’s Day, free guided hikes will take place in all 50 states, providing an opportunity for kids and adults to connect with nature and explore the beauty of state parks.

Last year, nearly 55,000 people collectively hiked over 133,000 miles across the country during First Day Hikes. Led by knowledgeable state park staff and volunteers, these hikes vary in distance and difficulty but always promise a fun experience for the whole family. The goal is to allow participants to appreciate the natural resources of state parks with the guidance of experienced leaders, inspiring them to continue enjoying these treasures throughout the year.

Join our Recreation Staff at the Recreation Building on January 1st at 1 p.m. for a moderately strenuous (yet slow-paced) 1.5-mile interpretive hike on the Spicebush Trail. Ensure you have good walking shoes, some water, and, if needed, rain gear for the hike. All participants completing the hike will receive their choice of a 1st Day Hike Medallion, a Zipper Pull, or a Patch for FREE! This event is open to all, and there is no charge to participate. For further details or questions about the event, please call our office at (859) 654-3531. We look forward to seeing you there!
